I’m David VanDyke, an author of sci-fi and related genres. I started writing in 2012 and went full-fime in 2014.
I started out in the US Army in the Airborne Infantry, then I went back to school, got a degree in history and earned a commission in the US Air Force, where I did Intelligence work for the rest of my time. I retired in 2007.
I’ve been a voracious reader my whole life, which is probably the first requirement for being an author. I did a lot of technical writing in the military, which has helped me with the nuts and bolts of writing. I’ve always loved everything otherworldly – science-fiction, fantasy, supernatural thrillers. My favorite authors include Zelazny, Koontz and Stirling.

Hi David, Great to meet another scifi writer with a history of being airborne!
Hi Tammy, were you Airborne as well? Yes, I was an Army Pathfinder in the 80s, then switched to the Air Force in the 90s. It’s given me lots of background experience to write about military stuff, I suppose. Thanks for those great articles and the tweets. My wife actually runs the twitter side so when you see my name on twitter it’s generally her actually. She’s my agent/manager/marketing consultant, couldn’t do it without her! -Dave
Yep, 82nd Airborne from ’96-’99 (long enough). And you have to love multi-tasking spouses! I call mine my “publicist.” Cheers!

Hi David,
I’ve just finished the Cal Corwin series, for the second time! Will there be additional books? (Fingers crossed!!)
Thanks!
Keri
I’d love to say there will be, and I want to write more, but the truth is, writing a sci-fi book makes 5-10 times what a Cal Corwin book does for me. Sadly, that’s the reality of being a full-time author. I have to do what pays the bills.
So, as I said, I hope I will, but no promised.
